Nonjuri might refer to
The Non-juring schism was a split in the national churches of England, Scotland and Ireland following the deposition and exile of James II & VII in the 1688 Glorious Revolution.
* As a condition of office, clergy within these national or 'established' churches were required to swear allegiance to the ruling monarch; a minority felt bound by their oath to James and refused to swear another to his successors William III and Mary II. They were known as Non-Jurors, from the Latin verb iūrō or jūrō meaning "swear an oath".
* Most English and Irish Non-Jurors did so out of conscience, rather than political or doctrinal reasons and James's death in 1701 resolved the issue. By the middle of the 18th century, the vast majority had either died or been reabsorbed into mainstream churches.
* In Scotland, differences were more fundamental and resulted in the creation of the Scottish Episcopal Church, still part of the modern Anglican Communion.
