Jalal description |

Jalal (جلال) is an Arabic masculine name, oftentimes means majesty as an attribute of God in the Bible, as in Psalms and Christian hymns, and in the Quran. Many Arabic-speaking Christians or other Christians and Arab or non-Arab Muslims have Jalal as Given or Family name. Majesty is among other approximate meanings of Jalal, like dignity, lordliness, loftiness, and glory to address a royal person like king, lord, emperor and monarch as in current monarchies, in formal situations, in histories, myths, and legends. When the Arabs spread their language over non-Arabic countries through religions or other ways, "Jalal", among other Arabic words, has been added to other language dictionaries of non-Arabic people. * In the Bible, and in many Psalms, Verses, and christian hymns, written in Arabic, like Psalms (29:4), (93:1), (111:3), (145:5), etc, Isaiah (30:30), (26:10), and the Great Doxology (Christian hymn), have the meaning of majesty for Jalal. For example: * Psalm (93:1): ".اَلرَّبُّ قَدْ مَلَكَ. لَبِسَ الْجَلاَلَ. لَبِسَ الرَّبُّ الْقُدْرَةَ، ائْتَزَرَ بِهَا. أَيْضًا تَثَبَّتَتِ الْمَسْكُونَةُ. لاَ تَتَزَعْزَعُ" which is in English:"The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty;...".Psalm (111:3): "جَلاَلٌ وَبَهَاءٌ عَمَلُهُ، وَعَدْلُهُ قَائِمٌ إِلَى الأَبَدِ" * Isaiah (26:10): ". نسبحك نباركك، نسجد لك، نمجدك، نشكرك من أجل عظيم جلال مجدك"The word Jalal (جلال), appears twice in Quran as "ذو الجلال والإكرام", both in Surat al-Rahman, in verse number 27 and 78, as an attribute of Allah. * Another form of the name is the Arabic spelling variant "Galal", mostly in the Egyptian Arabic dialect where Egyptians pronounce the letter " j " or in Arabic "ج" like the hard g /g/ in English as (gap, garden, gas...), and it is written like that with "G" to differentiate the pronunciation. The word "Galal" that is originally found in other languages or as country names where other languages prevailed has other meanings like wheel, to roll or to roll away. |
