DESCRIPTION :

An anagram is a type of word play, the result of rearranging the letters of a word or phrase to produce other words, using all the original letters exactly once. For example, the following two words are spelled with the same letters: "tan" and "ant". This is the simplest one more complicated examples are possible e.g Osama Bin Laden" rearranges as "Old man in a base. The best anagrams are meaningful and relate in some way to the original subject. They can be apposite, funny, rude, satirical or flattering.

 HISTORY :

Anagram was originated in the 3rd century B.C with the Greek poet Lycophron. According to other sources in 6th Century B.C phythagoras used anagrams to discover philosical meanings. Anagrams started to become popular in Europe in the Middle Ages. In the past authors have anagrammed their names to create pseudonyms. For example Francios Rabelais became Alcofribas Nasier.

This era also gave us the cognate anagram, where the anagram has some relevance to the original, e.g. AStronomer = Moon Starer. With the help of computer-based anagram generator software such as Anagram Genius it has become quicker and easir to produce high quality anagrams.
